The Deep Tech Innovation Catalyst


Signum Technologies was founded in 2022, in collaboration with the USG funded technology incubator, Fed Tech. Signum was chosen to bring to market groundbreaking biosensor technology developed in response to urgent healthcare and security needs arising from the Covid-19 pandemic. Signum’s goal is to transform this innovative technology into a widely adopted commercial product that will safeguard public health and security in the face of ongoing global challenges.

Sean Freitag serves as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Signum Technologies, an artificial intelligence and computer vision company that harnesses technology to address critical challenges faced by humanity. Prior to founding Signum Technologies, Mr. Freitag served as a Principal at the Blackstone Group, the largest alternative asset manager in the world where he worked in Blackstone’s Private Credit Group, supporting a portfolio of over 250 companies.

Prior to joining Blackstone, Mr. Freitag served as a U.S. Navy SEAL for 14 years with assignments at SEAL Team Four and SEAL Team Six. Over the course of his career in Special Operations, he was deployed multiple times to locations in Asia, the Middle East, and Northern Africa, where he conducted numerous Counter Terrorism, Direct Action, Special Reconnaissance, and Hostage Rescue missions.

Mr. Freitag was honored with numerous awards throughout his Naval career, including the Bronze Star Medal with Combat V (four awards), Joint Service Commendation Medal with Combat V, Navy Commendation Medal with Combat V (three awards), Purple Heart, and Sailor of the Year (2010), among others.

Mr. Freitag continues to support the Special Operations community through his work with impactful organizations. He serves on the board of directors of the Navy SEAL Foundation, which provides immediate and ongoing support and assistance to the Naval Special Warfare community and its families. He mentors veterans as they transition from active-duty service into their next careers and is active in efforts to address brain and mental health issues among combat veterans.

Mr. Freitag earned a Master of Business Administration with dual degrees in Finance and Entrepreneurial Management from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of Science with a concentration in Military Strategic Studies, Summa Cum Laude from Norwich University.

Andrew Gehman serves as Chief Operating Officer of Signum Technologies, an artificial intelligence and computer vision company that harnesses technology to address critical challenges faced by humanity. His professional career spans a diverse spectrum of roles, culminating in his establishment of Black Eagle Defense, a company specializing in cybersecurity and systems engineering. Mr. Gehman has built a distinguished reputation within the National Security community where he has seamlessly transitioned between technical and non-technical spheres, bringing his expertise to bear on both fronts.

Mr. Gehman has earned several academic degrees including a Masters in Information Systems, with a specialization in Information Assurance and Security, from AMU. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from Towson University and a Bachelor of Science in Cybersecurity from AMU. Additionally, Andrew has pursued a range of technical and non-technical certifications that have substantively contributed to his ongoing career progression.

Mark A Farmer serves as Chief Technology Officer of Signum Technologies, an artificial intelligence and computer vision company that harnesses technology to address critical challenges faced by humanity. Mark is a seasoned technology leader with over 24 years in the software engineering field. He is a natural leader, and excels at the intersection of software development, product delivery, go-to-market strategy, professional services, and internal business operations. Mark is known for his ability to build, inspire, and lead teams, driving innovation and problem-solving.

Throughout his career, Mark has been an instrumental figure in executive leadership within the software engineering landscape, with a focus on product development, maintenance, support, and financial forecasting. His expertise lies in strategic planning, regulatory compliance, vendor management, and risk management, orchestrating compliant, seamless, and efficient software development lifecycles. He brings a comprehensive skill set across the essential functions of a software company, covering product and project management, revenue generation through sales and marketing funnels, and adept people management.

Mark has worked in diverse industries, including data privacy, finance, ecommerce, digital and outdoor advertising, oil and gas, infrastructure, and social media. This extensive exposure has enhanced his adaptability, enabling him to create industry-specific software solutions that drive continuous improvement.

He offers robust proficiency in a range of programming languages and technologies. His resourcefulness and adaptability shine when it comes to learning and mastering new tech. His approach isn’t about the mastery of a single language or platform; instead, he’s a ‘jack of all codes’, readily learning and applying the appropriate technology to meet the unique needs of each project. Mark is a proud alumnus of the University of Southern Mississippi, where he earned his Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering Technology.

Kevin Gemp
Mr. Gemp is a subject matter expert in optics, imaging, and prototype development. Kevin is the Computational Imaging & Sensing Group Leader in the Emerging Technologies Division. He is also a Project Leader for the Army RCCTO working on the mission to rapidly and efficiently research, develop, prototype, test, evaluate, procure, transition, and/or field critical enabling technologies and capabilities that address near-term, and mid-term threats. Kevin has a B.S. in Optics from the University of Rochester and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Kevin Dickey
Mr. Dickey is an imaging systems engineer with broad experience in signal processing, hardware-software interfaces, and spectral imaging systems spanning the electromagnetic spectrum. With a focus on mission utility, Kevin acts as a critical link between laboratory prototypes and fieldable solutions. He serves as a key technical contributor for both hardware and software to provide innovative solutions to a broad range of pressing challenges faced by the US Government, including autonomous systems evaluation, cyber vulnerability assessment, and missile defense. Kevin has a B.S. in Imaging Science from the Rochester Institute of Technology and an M.S. in Electrical and Computer Engineering from Johns Hopkins University
